June 17 — And now for something completely different

I shot these photos in my kitchen, not the gardens. My husband gave me tulips for my birthday last week, and my daughter got a bouquet for high school graduation. I meant to shoot the flowers sooner but didn’t get around to it till yesterday. There’s still a lot of beauty in these fading flowers. But note the tulip only has one petal left. The top flower is a carnation.

The flowers are on the kitchen table catching afternoon light. I put the shutter o na timer and stood behind the blooms with a length of black velvet fabric to disguise the cluttered background.

  1. Belated birthday greetings, Pat. Now that we’ve seen what you do with dead flowers, please don’t shy away from doing more.

      • The fact that you get such striking results under those harsh outdoor conditions makes your work especially remarkable.

      • thanks! i’m learning a lot. Say, I’m looking at the world a little differently because of your blog, I saw some interesting geometric taillight reflections on the tile walls of the 2nd Street Tunnel today. It reminded me of your work. I think you would have enjoyed it.
